Description
Full Title: Daughter of Pomp Hall, Negro Tenant Farmer 1940 by Russell Lee
Lee, Russell, 1903-1986, photographer
Daughter of Pomp Hall, Negro tenant farmer, putting wood in stove. Creek County, Oklahoma.
The image shows a young black girl putting wood in an old, wood-burning, cook stove. As tenant farmers life could be difficult as suggested by the living conditions we see in the photograph. Notice the corduroy jacket is tattered torn, and missing buttons.
Also notice that the walls are covered with newspaper instead of painted or wallpapered with dance paper. Even the table is covered with newspaper, no fancy linen table cloths here. Most of the paper on the walls seems to be old pages from the Tulsa Tribune.
