This is a watercolor rendition of an original dime novel cover.

The dime novel of the old west published in the east often times carried stories of real live people but had not a thread to truth to them. The made these people, large as they were in real life even larger than they really were. The dime novel romanticized the west and exploited the thrill seekers and the wanderers and their weaknesses. Very often people were lured to the west by these false impressions and found nothing but hard times, starvation and even death.
