Description
Blue on Blue Manzanillo Harbor Mexico by Floyd Snyder
It is about 5: AM and I was sitting on the balcony on the Grand Princess cruise ship eating breakfast and this boat was way, way down towards the mouth of the harbor.
It was just drifting along and I could see man aboard doing something but had no idea what it was. When he finally drifted closer I could see he was pulling a gill net out of the water and occasionally pulling out a small fish and putting it in the bucket.
He drifted past the ship and what was probably a mile or so down the coastline when he finally turned the boat around an rowed it back up the mouth of the harbor where he came from. When he was just about out of site he stopped rowing and stating letting out the hundreds of yards of gill net once again and then started pulling in all over again.
I checked on him just before I went to lunch and he was rowing back into the mouth of the harbor this time he disappeared and did not come back.
That was about 7 hours of back-breaking labor before noon from when I spotted him at 5: AM. No telling how long it took him prepare and how long to finish up for the day.
I love the colors in this pic but mostly I am showing it as a tribute to the fisherman and women of Mexico that have been doing this for years and years. These are hard-working, the slat of the earth people.
