Description
White Egert on a Log Pismo Beach by Floyd Snyder
The great egret, also known as the common egret, large egret, or great white egret or great white heron is a large, widely distributed egret, with four subspecies found in Asia, Africa, the Americas, and southern Europe.
Egrets are herons that have white or buff plumage and develop fine plumes (usually milky white) during the breeding season. Egrets are not a biologically distinct group from the herons and have the same build.
This one was fishing in rather large back flowage in the dunes of Pebble Beach. I was a rather large back flowage that was full of water the day after a rather large rain from the day before.
The flowage was full of ducks and birds of all kinds including some really low flying pelicans and hawks looking for a snack.
