Description
Water Tower Froom Dairy by Floyd Snyder
I have a series of old photos from an old dairy farm that used to operate in the City of San Luis Obispo in the county of the same name located on the Central Coast of California.
In this picture, you see an old water tower that serviced that dairy farm when it was still producing milk, cream and cheese.
Search Froom Dairy for more images of this old dairy farm.
The dairy was also known as Froom Ranch and it is owned by the Madana family. Froom Ranch was one of the Central Coast’s longtime dairy operations. The ranch owes its name to its original developer, John Froom, a Canadian who came to the local area as a laborer in the 1870’s. He launched his own operation in 1890, when he leased 500 acres of the ranchland and began a 50-cow dairy, which he grew and continued to operate until his death in 1929. After John Froom’s death, Bill Froom, one of John’s sons, took over the ranch and operated it until 1977. Alex Madonna purchased the property for beef cattle operations in 1976, and Bill Froom continued to live at the ranch until 1998. Alex‘s son, John Madonna, purchased the property in 2011.
