Description
The Eagle is Landing by Dave Menke
The bald eagle draws wings back as it comes into the nest for a landing. Bald eagles generally lay 2 to 3 eggs in a large nest made of sticks and smaller twigs in tall trees or on rocky cliffs.
Eagles have white heads and tails with dark brown bodies and wings. Their legs and bills are bright yellow. Immature birds have mostly dark heads and tails; their brown wings and bodies are mottled with white in varying amounts. Young birds attain adult plumage in about five years.
Bald eagle. The bald eagle, the United States' national symbol, plummeted from abundance to endangered status; only 417 pairs were left in 1963. Thanks to tireless conservation efforts, this fish-eating raptor has rebounded and been removed from the Endangered Species List.
