One of the most scenic coastal drives in the world is the Big Sur area on the west coast of the USA along California's famous Pacific Coast Highway, or Highway 1. The Big Sur area running south of Carmel, California on the Monterey Peninsula and ends in Morro Bay, California.
The Big Sur area has been the setting of many Hollywood movies, none more famous or more acclaimed than The Sandpiper, starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.
It is also home of the Henry Miller Library and Gallery. Miller is more famous for his writing as the author of Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn but he was also an accomplished artist. His originals hang in some of the most prestigious collections in the world.
Big Sur is also home of the Big Sur Inn and the famous Nepenthes Restaurant. The Big Sur Inn offer river side cabins and a great restaurant and Nepenthes Restaurant is famous for its great food and spectacular ocean views including whale watching.
