Description
Lodge At Lake Como by Carl Frederik Peder Aagaard
Lake Como, in Northern Italy’s Lombardy region, is an upscale resort area known for its dramatic scenery, set against the foothills of the Alps. The lake is shaped like an upside-down Y, with three slender branches that meet at the resort town of Bellagio. At the bottom of the southwest branch lies the city of Como, home to Renaissance architecture and a funicular that travels up to the mountain town of Brunate.
Carl Frederik Peder Aagaard was a Danish landscape painter. Working in a classical academic style, he focused on Northern European forests and waterways. Aagaard’s work is especially notable for his inclusion of historical architecture and ruins, which he often located in epic and romantic milieu. Born in Odense, Denmark on January 29, 1833, Aagaard studied at the Copenhagen Academy until 1853, and subsequently became a member of the Academy in 1874. He produced numerous works until his death in Copenhagen in 1895, some of which can be found today in the collection of the Museum of Stockholm.
