Description
Herd of Four Wild Horses by Floyd Snyder
Return to Freedom is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to ensuring the preservation of the freedom, diversity, and habitat of America's wild horses. They achieve this goal through different approaches, including providing sanctuary, education programs, and conservation efforts. Their primary objective is to enrich the human spirit through direct experience with the natural world.
The sanctuary is located in a serene environment in Santa Barbara County, California, just south of Lompoc. It is approximately a one-hour drive north of the city of Santa Barbara. The sanctuary covers over 300 acres of land, providing a natural habitat for the wild horses.
The sanctuary has gained considerable support from several celebrities, including Robert Redford and Carole King, who have visited the facility and have been actively involved in fundraising efforts. The facility is staffed by a team of dedicated veterinarians, trainers, and volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of the horses.
Currently, the sanctuary provides a home to around 350 horses, many of which are rescued from inhumane treatment, neglect, or abandonment. Return to Freedom is also actively involved in an adoption program, where people can adopt a horse and provide them with a loving home. The adoption program aims to raise awareness about the importance of wild horses in our ecosystem and to promote the welfare of these magnificent creatures.
