Description
Cuyama Buckhorn Red Truck by Floyd Snyder
New Cuyama was established in 1951 and was at one time a bustling oil town. Now it is a bustling agriculture community. Well, I guess it is not exactly bustling, more like a really quite small community 60 miles east of Santa Maria and home of the Cuyama Buckhorn, a motel, restaurant, and bar.
The Buckhorn was established in 1951 and has gone through a few rebirths. Most recently has gained in popularity featuring music, totally renovated rooms, a great swimming pool, and firepits.
New Cuyama is a census-designated place in the Cuyama Valley, Santa Barbara County, California. It was named after the Chumash Indian word for "clams", most likely due to the millions of petrified prehistoric clamshell fossils that are found in the surrounding areas.
