Description
Cannon Hearst Castle Patio by Floyd Snyder
When you are first dropped off at the back of Hearst Castle, you enter the grounds through the back patio. Sitting on the patio are several antiques that are part of the huge collection of artifact and antiques that are found all around the castle and of course inside the castle itself.
This antique Spanish cannon is one of few that are found on the grounds. And, no, they were not part of any security or defense system in place in spite of the fact that they were brought in the era of WWII.
Hearst Castle is both a National and California Historical Landmark own and operated by California State Parks. It the most heavily visited park in the entire system. It is located in San Simion, California in San Luis Obispo County, California and was built by William Randolf Hearst over a period of years from 1919 to 1947 and later donated to the State of California by his heirs.
The lead architect on the project was Julia Morgan.
