Description
Blue Heron on a Piling by Barbara Snyder
This bird was captured in the bay sitting on an old piling in Morro Bay.
Morro Bay, California, is a favorite tourist destination in all of California. It is home to famous Morro Rock and one of the few quite water harbors between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The entire city and the surrounding area is a nation bird sanctuary and is home to many species of sea and land birds.
Largest of the North American herons with long legs, a sinuous neck, and thick, daggerlike bill. Head, chest, and wing plumes give a shaggy appearance. In flight, the Great Blue Heron curls its neck into a tight āSā shape; its wings are broad and rounded and its legs trail well beyond the tail.
