Description
1931 Army Air Corps Staff Car by Floyd Snyder
There is nothing glamorous, or spectacular about this image. However, it is a great story about a tribute to American Veterans by one of their own.
I found this 1931 Army Air Corps Staff Car sitting at Charle's restaurant in Los Alamos, California.
The car's permanent home is in Burbank, with the owner, a Vietnam-era veteran, airplane mechanic, is not out touring the country and collecting signatures from veterans on his car.
The car was parked on the street side of the parking lot, and traffic was heavy, so I only got to chat with the owner for a few minutes. When he bought the car, it needed a complete restoration.
He did a complete body-off restoration on the car and restored it to its formerly pristine condition making sure every single part was an original. It took him years to complete, and he did an incredible job.
At the first show, he took it to it was a major hit with all of the veterans, and somehow he came up with the idea of getting vets to sign the car. Considering the work that went into the paint job alone, I thought this was a rather strange thing to do, allowing people to sign their name with a black sharpie. The more he talked about how much the people he asked appreciated being honored that way, the more I fell in love with the idea.
He has gathered about 200 signatures to date, and I am proud to say I am now one of them.
