David Dellepiane, born in Genoa on16 October 1866, Arrived in France in Marseilles with his family in 1875. His father Vittorio, Garibaldi and therefore opposed to King Victor Emmanuel, appears to have been forced to leave his hometown. The family moved to St. John neighborhood populated mainly at the time of fishermen from Piedmont, Genoa and Naples. This family consists of craftsmen: the grandfather is designer and decorator, grandmother gold embroidery and father woodcarver for Marine Foundation Marseille
In 1880 he entered the School of Fine Arts of Marseilleand there continued his education until 1884/85. He made a brief stay in Genoa in 1884. In 1890 he lived in Paris when the modern style was a great success with the posters of Mucha; he works in the capital under the direction of Jules Cheret to forming the art lithographic.
On his return to Marseille, he set up his first workshop at the dock of the canal, currently Cours Jean-Ballard ; his neighbors Alfred Casile , Valere Bernard , Rene Seyssaud , Joseph Garibaldi and Eugene Giraud.
He knows the success with a poster he realized in 1899 for the 25 th centenary of the foundation of Marseille where he represents the legend of Protis and Gyptis; it is shown coated with the cap and the rich coral necklace worn by the Lady of Elche , limestone bust discovered4 August 1897close to Alicante (Spain).
